ASHMORE, Jamille “Jay”

Whether in the training gym, the competition floor, or in the worlds of coaching, judging, gymnastics or business administration, Jay Ashmore was always moving.  And everywhere he moved, with a few positive words, he created confidence and enthusiasm.

Ashmore was elected to the International Gymnastic Federation (FIG) Executive Committee at their Congress held during the Atlanta, Ga. Olympics, (1996). The FIG is the governing body for gymnastics in the world. Ashmore went to high school at Jesuit College Preparatory School and competed at the Dallas Athletic Club.  Jay went to Florida State U. and was an NCAA Champion, FX, (1956). National AAU Championships: Gold-SR & FX, (1959). Pan American Games: Gold-Team & SR plus Silver-PH, (1959); Gold-Team & SR, (1963). Coaching: Ashmore served as the assistant coach at the West Point Military Academy and the University of Illinois.  He advanced to Head Coach at Connecticut State University and the University of Texas. Personal: Jay served as Director of Events for the United States Gymnastics Federation and Director General of the 1979 World Championships, (Fort Worth, Texas).  He is president of two companies that are internationally oriented in consulting and management. He is also a member of the USA Gymnastics Executive Committee.
