Biography: BEYER, E. F.

Bud Beyer was considered to be one of the finest AA gymnasts of his era.  He would have been a serious contender for the 1940 Olympic Team had not WWII interfered.  In 2002, he was named an Honorary Member of the 1940 U.S. Olympic Team by a select group of Hall of Fame Honorees.

National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA): Competing at the U. of Chicago, Bud won Gold-PH, V, & PB, (1939 & ’40). Education: B.A. & M.S. Coaching: Bud Beyer coached for most of his career at the U. of Chicago and New York State U. at Plattsburg.  During the ’40s and ‘50s, he created Acrotheater, a popular campus-based performing arts group that often played to sold-out audiences.  This program was featured in Life, Look, and Fox Movietone newsreels.  Beyer was a member of the Olympic women’s team coaching staff in London, (1948); He often wrote a column for the Modern Gymnast magazine.
